WDD was created by the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) and the World Health Organization (WHO) in 1991 in response to growing concerns about the escalating incidence of diabetes around the world. Led by the IDF and its member associations, the actual day is commemorated annually on 14 November. Locally, Diabetes Singapore has been the main organiser of WDD events since 1991. This year, the organising committee has lined up a series of activities to commemorate WDD 2020, including the light up of Singapore Landmarks in blue (6-10 Nov), the 5K Virtual Run (6-15 Nov) and a Virtual Meeting (15 Nov). The events give us an opportunity to expand our reach to a wide audience in Singapore in propagating diabetes awareness and educating the general public on prevention and management of diabetes. This year, the theme for WDD 2020 is The Nurse and Diabetes. The campaign aims to raise awareness around the crucial role that nurses play in supporting people living with diabetes. Join us in celebrating WDD 2020!
